One of our goals at the Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) is to help Ohioans achieve their dream of homeownership. And, for Ohio's first responders, teachers, and active and retired military, OHFA offers a discounted mortgage rate through the Ohio Heroes program.
Ohioans that are veterans, active-duty military or members of reserve components (which also includes surviving spouses), police officers, firefighters, volunteer firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses (RNs, LPNs, STNAs), and pre-K through 12 teachers, administrators, or counselors are eligible for the program.
To qualify you must also meet OHFA's income and purchase price limits, have a credit score of at least 640 for a conventional, USDA or VA loan; or 650 for an FHA loan; and meet the debt-to-income ratio for your loan type.
Affordable loan options include 30-year fixed rate Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Veterans Affairs (VA), United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDA-RD), and conventional mortgage loans with generous income and purchase price limits designed for first-time homebuyers.
The Ohio Heroes program can be used with other OHFA programs, including Your Choice! Down Payment Assistance, Grants for Grads, Mortgage Tax Credit, and Next Home.
