My Experience with OHFA Trainings

OHFA Training Classes

Like most realtors, I am always looking for continuing education (CE) classes that interest me and fulfill my continuing education requirements. Although online classes are easy and convenient, I find I gain the most from in-person instruction. I happened upon the description of a class offered by the Ohio Housing Financing Agency (OHFA) and signed up for the free class. I wanted to get a refresher about down payment assistance or 100% financing options for my buyers. With the changing landscape within our industry, it makes sense to sharpen our tools regarding buyer financing options.

The class, Fair Housing Foundations, was a nice mix of lecture and film with little snippets of history to help gain some insight into how civil rights came about and the important role they play in fair housing. As realtors, understanding our part in fair housing is key to bringing the possibility of homeownership to those who are underserved.

I have attended many classes over the two plus decades I have been licensed. This class almost moved me to tears. Real estate agents and banks were a part of the problem. History tells us this. Now, we must be part of the solution.

The final part of the class went over the various options for buyer financing through OHFA: what can be combined, repayment terms if a buyer doesn't stay in the house for the required time, income limits, and target areas.

I encourage real estate professionals to take this class. They will be changed and charged with information to be better agents for all parties.
