Save the Dream Ohio Mortgage Assistance Program Closes October 31st
COLUMBUS, OH - The Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) will close the Save the Dream Ohio Mortgage Assistance application on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at 5 p.m. as the number of current applications outpaces the remaining amount of funding. Ohioans that need assistance with mortgage payments should contact their local HUD-approved Housing Counseling Agency or their local legal aid office.
The Mortgage Assistance component of the Save the Dream Ohio program provided eligible Ohio homeowners with financial assistance to pay delinquent mortgage payments and/or future mortgage payments for up to six months. To date, more than 18,000 Ohio homeowners have been assisted through the mortgage assistance component of the program.
"Over the last two years, we have helped Ohio homeowners avoid foreclosure, prevent utility shut-offs, and pay delinquent property taxes through the Save the Dream Ohio program," said Shawn Smith, executive director of the OHFA. "While the mortgage assistance component of the program comes to an end on Tuesday, we will continue working with the local Community Action Agencies to provide Save the Dream Ohio Utility Assistance Plus program."
The Save the Dream Ohio Utility Assistance Plus program, which helps homeowners financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic pay utility bills, non-escrowed property taxes, and other qualified housing costs, remains open. Ohioans should contact their local Community Action Agency for more information on the program. Applications will be accepted until all funds have been allocated. Submission of an application does not guarantee an award.
To date, the Save the Dream Ohio has allocated more than $212 million in both mortgage and utility assistance, helping nearly 30,000 Ohio households. The state of Ohio was awarded $280 million from the U.S. Department of Treasury through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 for the program.
Save the Dream Ohio is administered by the Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) and is being supported, in whole or in part, by federal award number HAF0086 awarded to the State of Ohio by the US Department of the Treasury.
