5K Race Promotes Affordable Housing; Donates Proceeds to Local Housing Nonprofit

COLUMBUS, OH - The Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) and Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing (OCCH) invite Central Ohio runners and walkers to lace up for a great cause at the 2nd annual Race for a Place (to Call Home) 5K Run/Walk.

The race seeks to raise awareness about affordable housing issues and returns to McFerson Commons Park, just across from Nationwide Arena in downtown Columbus on April 6, 2019. Race proceeds benefit Habit for Humanity – MidOhio.

The Race is open to walkers and runners of all ages and skill levels, whether a serious runner training for the next marathon or a casual walker. Families with strollers can also register and will have a special spot in our start line to make participation easier.

"This race is a fun and engaging way for people from all walks of life to learn more about the affordable housing needs and issues in our communities," said OHFA Acting Executive Director Holly Holtzen. "Housing stability and affordability affect thousands of Ohioans every day. This event is another way we are raising the profile of this critical need in our state."

Those who participate in the Race are supporting a great local need. Habitat MidOhio has spent over thirty years bringing the dream of homeownership to families in need in central Ohio.

"Affordable, decent housing is one of our most basic human needs, yet it is in alarmingly short supply in our very own neighborhoods and throughout the world. We are excited to partner with OHFA and OCCH to help share that message and critical need in our community." said E.J. Thomas, President and CEO, Habitat for Humanity – MidOhio.

The Race Starting Line is located at McFerson Commons Park. The course continues along the scenic Scioto Trail and Scioto River, ending at the park's entry arch. Children under six years old can participate for free, and all paying participants will receive a free event t-shirt and swag bag.

Registration is open through race day, although participants are encouraged to register early.
