OHFA and OCCH Announce First Race for a Place (to Call Home) 5K
COLUMBUS - The Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) and Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing (OCCH) are excited to announce the first Race for a Place (to Call Home) 5K. This family-friendly event will take place in downtown Columbus on Saturday, April 7, 2018.
This race will raise awareness about the positive impact affordable housing has on communities and the lives of residents.
"We believe that everyone deserves a quality, safe and affordable place to live," says OHFA's Executive Director, Sean Thomas. "Affordable housing improves the health and lives of residents. Its development also provides local jobs and connects more people to opportunities and resources in their communities. This event is a great opportunity to inform the public about how affordable housing can benefit their neighborhoods."
All proceeds from the race will go to the Community Shelter Board, which provides funding to programs that work to end homelessness in central Ohio. By collaborating with other local organizations, the Community Shelter Board aims to develop innovative solutions and invest in quality programs.
"Most people in our community don't know what it feels like to worry about where they and their loved ones will sleep tonight," said Michelle Heritage, executive director of Community Shelter Board. "The Race for a Place is an opportunity to reach more people to raise awareness about how prevalent homelessness is, what can and is being done about it and why every person with a safe, stable home should care. We are grateful to join with OHFA and OCCH for the Race for a Place (to Call Home) 5K. Together, we can make sure everyone has a place to call home."
Beginning and ending at the entry arch to McFerson Commons, participants will run or walk through Columbus's scenic Arena District and along the beautiful Scioto River. From serious runners to casual walkers, this event is perfect for the entire family. Children under six years old can participate for free, and all paying participants will receive a free event t-shirt.
Bring your friends and family, participate in a day of healthy activities and support a cause working to end homelessness in your community.
