Southwick Manor is an affordable housing development that helps residents stay active and independent within their community.

Located in Brunswick, Ohio, Southwick Manor provides 54 units of affordable housing to seniors and includes a community room, computer center, media room and fitness center to keep residents active and engaged as they age. Medina County in Ohio has an aging population and a scarcity of affordable housing for seniors. To create this property, OHFA provided a Housing Development Loan of $1 million and $820,000 in Low-Income Housing Tax Credits. The property was developed by MV Residential Development, LLC, and is managed by the Medina Metropolitan Housing Authority.

In 2016, OHFA visited the property to meet some of Southwick Manor's residents. Before moving to Southwick Manor, Rick lived in a small, isolated apartment that was not accessible. He didn't know his neighbors well and spent most of his days alone. When his mailman told him about the new development, he called his local officials and applied for an apartment; Rick says that finding out his application had been accepted felt like "winning the lottery."

Now, Rick knows his neighbors well and loves helping them in any way he can, from learning new things on the development's computers or finishing projects in their apartments. He participates in potlucks and get-togethers with other residents, and they often go to nearby restaurants closely located to the development. At Southwick Manor, he feels like he has found a home again.
