OHFA 2022 Fourth Quarter Agency at a Glance
As 2022 came to a close, the Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) launched two new initiatives to help open the doors to an affordable place to call home . In October, the OHFA Board approved $1.8 million for a pilot program to build 10 affordable, single-family homes in Zanesville. This partnership with the city of Zanesville and local partners expects to start construction on the homes in March and have it completed by summer. In November, the OHFA Board approved a partnership with Esusu Financial, Inc., the leading financial technology company leveraging rent reporting for credit building, to help 442 families living in nine OHFA-financed properties build their credit scores. Through this partnership, families will build their credit scores with the reporting of on-time rent payments. The Ohio Housing Conference (November 29-30) was in-person and drew more than 1,400 attendees to 40 sessions. OHFA and the Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing inducted two affordable housing leaders, Doug Garver and Hal Keller, into the new Ohio Housing Hall of Fame while Community Development for All People received the annual William J. Graves Ohio Housing Excellence Award. The Office of Research and Analytics not only presented at the Ohio Association of Area Agencies on Aging annual conference and the National Council of State Housing Agencies annual conference, but it also released the Housing Tax Credit Resident Profile in November. The report compares data on the 173,528 residents living in OHFA-financed Housing Tax Credit (HTC) properties at the end of 2021 to the HTC-eligible population statewide to better understand how OHFA is serving successfully the housing needs of Ohio renters. Despite changes in the market, the Office of Single Family Housing has kept busy with consistent reservations. It continues to train lending partners on OHFA programs while seeing an increased interest from new lenders. The office has 114 lenders in first-time homebuyer programs and has expanded partnerships with local mortgage bankers’ associations. Through the end of November, OHFA has helped more than 3,400 families realize their dreams of homeownership. For the Office of Multifamily Housing, 2022 was one of its busiest years to date with the review of 172 applications totaling 12,298 units and requesting $171.2 million in Housing Tax Credits. OHFA has awarded approximately $83.2 million in credits along with nearly $90 million in Housing Development Assistance Programs resources that ultimately will create or preserve 6,335 units of high quality, affordable housing in Ohio. The Compliance team completed its 2022 inspections and is planning for 2023 with the impending submissions of 2022 Annual Owner Reports. The team also has updated compliance forms and the required management questionnaire and scheduled in-person and virtual trainings. As we start 2023, the OHFA team is preparing to move to its new office at 2600 Corporate Exchange Drive in Columbus. The new office space will provide modern work areas and amenities as we work to increase program efficiencies and customer service. 2 Pilot Program to Build Single-Family Homes in Zanesville 3 Partnering with Esusu to Help Residents Build Credit Scores 4 2022 Ohio Housing Conference Recap 5 The Office of Research and Analytics Update 6 Single Family Housing: Preparing for the Future 7 Multifamily Housing: Development Division Update 8 Multifamily Housing: Compliance Division Update 9 HR Annoucements WAYSTOKEEP INTOUCH: JOINOUR EMAILLIST: 2022 FOURTH QUARTER AGENCY AT A GLANCE
